 FIRST MOTORISTS TO BE DRIVING SUN-POWERED CARS BY END OF 2021

The Netherlands start-up company Lightyear with its uniquely blended team of young talent and experienced former employees of Tesla, Audi and Ferrari has now raised enough funding through reservations, investments and grants to complete first customer deliveries of the Lightyear One by the end of 2021.
Lightyear one parked in the sun. Lightyear is commercializing a highly efficient electric vehicle with integrated solar cells in order to minimize the charging needs and grid dependency of the vehicle. Lightyear's patented portfolio covers innovations for an efficient powertrain, high yield solar roof and optimized thermal management systems. The Lightyear One will have a range of 725 km and will be able to recharge from its own solar roof. Although new car sales have dropped by 53%, challengers of the incumbent automotive industry such as Lightyear have been much less affected by the corona virus crisis than traditional car makers.
"We expect the transition to sustainable mobility to accelerate even further as a result of the crisis, " says Jeroen Willems, one of the key investors.
Fueling the economy, generating jobs, and developing new knowledge are the key pieces in investment that supports large societal challenges such as energy transition and smart mobility. Lightyear is on a mission to make clean mobility available to everyone everywhere.
